You need to make sure that your body has had chance to wind down before you go to sleep. Never sleep on a full stomach, try to avoid alcohol and try not to go to bed too soon after coming in from work.
Exercise helps release feel good chemicals to the brain which will help with relaxation.
Lavender sleep mist spray on your pillow will help relax your mind. Try keeping a pen and paper beside the bed and write down any worries or concerns about anything you have so you won't think about them in your sleep - you know they will be there for the morning.

Well maybe u r going through a stressful period... sometimes u don't even know it but at night all these thoughts pass through your head and u don't realise it! best thing i can suggest is not 2 watch anything that might make u think 2 much b4 u sleep or do anything like work on your PC etc b4 u go 2 bed cause subconsciously u will think about it when u sleep! It used 2 happen 2 me a lot! I used 2 do our monthly budget or shopping list or a list of stuff that needs 2 get done in the house b4 I went 2 bed - I realised that when I woke up in d am i felt like I never slept! after a while I stopped doing this at night and started 2 sleep better! - think about what u do b4 u go 2 bed - try changing your routine a bit it might help - some other solutions r - herbal/chamomile tea, a warm bath or a brisk walk - Good luck :o)

Excellent question. Apparently this is not just a local thing. All over the world people are not getting enough rest. Special articles have been done on television about this. It is so important to get enough sleep at night. The only thing worse than restless sleep is - and many of you know this one backwards and forwards - is being waked up at some ungodly hour like "by ambush," feeling anxious or frightened or fearful or just plain old fashioned uncertainty of one kind or another. I think the whole thing goes back to remembering to get enough sleep. I try to get to bed by eleven. I am up around six. Everyone is different. But if something isn't quite right somewhere, you probably need more sleep. And if your sleep is troubled, that is even more reason to start planning on more, regular sleep, like getting to bed around ten and up around seven. But yes, I usually watch a stupid boring movie in VHS format and it gets me so sleepy I can bearly make it upstairs, and turn off the light! One of my favourites is any of the fifty thousand old Godzilla movies from the fifties. I can't last through any more than ten minutes of any one of those!

I do have the same problem. Usually it is related to stress that I have at work. I had a really stressful job 5 months ago. I was not sleeping well, due to thinking about work. When I got a new job it went away, and I was fine for a while. Now, my new job is getting stressful, and I am having problems with it again.
Things that might help:
1. Exercise
2. Cut out coffee and other caffeinated bevgs.
3. Talk about what is bothering you with family or friends
4. Deal with the stress in your life by making changes and the above suggestions
5. Try to quit or reduce smoking if you do (I stopped for a while and I slept like a baby)
Hope that helps.

Just before bed, don't do anything tht will make your mind work. eg puzzles or excersise. If thinking to much stops you from thinking. Then write a list of all the things that need sorting out and promise to do them in the morning. Put the list in a draw where you can look at it later on. then let the thoughts slip from your mind.

I haven't slept well in years, and I take meds (Seroquel). I do have a fitful sleep, wake in the morning tired, but do feel like I've not slept at all. I have to go to work and my work is on the phones, so alert I must be.
What I do now is take meds early (8:30 pm), and go to bed no later than (9:30 pm). If I go to bed later...I am in trouble. I rarely dream either.

I would suggest that you walk outside in the evening if you can, 20-40 minutes, don't bring your music, just listen to your thoughts so you can try to think things out. If things are bothering you, you might find a solution. Also the fresh air will help you relax and the exercise will help you sleep.
