Do you think there are alot of things that aren't considered child abuse but should be? There are tons of things that I just think "That poor child.." and it makes me mad that parents get away with it. I've been thinking and I've come up with a list of things that in my opinion should be considered abuse. I've put my reasons next to them too. What do you think? Are these things that should be considered abuse?

Smoking in your home/car--2nd hand smoke is more harmful than actually smoking & children should not be subjected to it.

Taking your kids with you while getting your nails done--there are disgusting fumes all throughout the nail salon that smell horrible and are probably not good for you to inhale.

Walking through the house with shoes on--you go to dirty places and step in spit, mud, oil, bacteria, dog crap, etc. & then walk through your living room which is the same place where your children play & they're playing on that spit, mud, oil, bacteria, etc.

Those are just a few of my list, but I seriously believe there are things that are not considered child abuse but should be. What do you think? Do you have any things you think should be considered abuse?

No, not a neat freak--I'd just rather have my children playing on a floor I knew wasn't covered in spit, oil, and germs that my shoes picked up while walking through a parking lot. That's all.

I could not agree more. So many things that are so harmful to children that people get away with everyday and don't even think twice that what they're doing is harmful to others around them.

I understand the smoking in your car/home. I don't do it--kids shouldn't be forced in a car were their parents smoke--it's not their choice and parents are supposed to be protecting them, instead some choose to do the complete opposite.

I don't get my nails done so I really don't know. If I did I wouldn't really care. I don't live near family (we live in FL, they are in NM and OH) so--I have to do what I have to do. My kids are with me all the time--I mean all the time! My husband is military and with constant moves it's hard to make friends quick and/or ones you trust with your kids.

Walking thought the house--that's a little out there. I think it's the air is dirty--should we buy a air filtration system for our home? No. The shoes in the house do pick up dirt but it's not enough to spread a disease or make a child really sick. I don't like shoes in the house because with a five year old it can get a little messy! We all wear shoes around the house every once in a while and my kids are never sick. Also--I am a neat freak but that doesn't really bother me.

We cannot protect our kids against everything. They will incounter germs and bacteria for the rest of their lives. It's not that big of a deal and it's been proven to make their immune systems better. This is because they are around it from an early age so when they get older (grade-school) they are far less likely to get sick from it.

On thing that feel should be considered child abuse is--living in an unsanitary home (dishes all over the place, clothes lying around, bug infested, and just "dirty")--I've seen so many homes like this and I cannot believe it. That's what people should be concerned for--not a little bacteria getting on the carpet.

Good Question though!

I'm sorry, but i think you are being a little over protective. Smoking in a car with the windows down is not child abuse. Bring a child to a nail salon, so what? The short amount of time they are there is not going to hurt them. The shoe think is the one that I really do not understand. Most if not all the germs brought in by shoes are everyday germs, having your child exposed to them will make their immune system stronger. Even lead and pesticides are such low levels that it will not hurt your child. Most of what is picked up on a shoe is off of them within a few minutes of walking. We wear shes in the house all the time, my children included and they are very healthy. Show me one study to support what you are saying.

I and more than half of the world is abusing their kids then, because we walk around the house with our shoes all of the time. You must be a neat freak or something. That is definitley not abuse. Yes smoking around a child is not good I agree.

You think that wearing shoes in the house should be considered child abuse? That is a little much for me.

I sort of like what you've said, it makes since.
BUT, I think that if a kid continues to misbehave and you've exhausted all your resources, it should NOT be considered abuse to lock them in a closet for about 10 to 30 minutes as a way to teach them to behave.

Infant circumcision and piercing babies ears.

If we periced our babies lips or eyebrows it would be considered child abuse. But it's ok to pierce their ears.

Circumcision is self explanatory: permanent removal of functioning tissue- it's mutilation, plain and simple.
