having a ported box can give you a 3db gain (which can be like adding a second sub). This is because you are adding another air chamber (your car) for your sub. A sealed enclosure is good for rock since air pressure can build up behind the sub in the box and give you more accuracy and a tighter bass sound.

I say that you make a vented box! If you know how a Bass Bin type box would work best.

if you only listen to rap the absolute best box setup for rap is not sealed or ported its bandpass the reason being is bandpass boxes are designed to put out the frequencies that are perfect for rap low, deep, long hits. rock sounds like crap with a bandpass box because rock needs tight fast hits. ask any professional installer they will tell you the same trust me get a 2 - 12" bandpass box by fosgate or a good company like that and you will be very satisfied.

Vented, or ported, same thing. Gives you a lot more bottom.
