Merry Meet.

I'm Wiccan and have been for years. I'm a solitary (means I don't practice with a coven) because I find covens too binding in their ways.

There are no rules like being a vegan.

There are only two laws in Wicca. Harm None and The Threefold Law (whatever you do comes back to you threefold during your lifetime).

Every witch believes something different and there are no hard and fast rules other than those two.

There is a god and a goddess. Both are two halfs of the same thing just like all things in the universe have dualities. Light/dark, good/bad, positive/negative. The god and goddess are neither good nor bad and they don't generally interfere with our lives.

For me, the god and goddess are not personifications of deity. They are simply the names by which we understand the nature of the universe with our limited minds.

As for magic... well everything is made up of energy, even matter. It's just in different forms. So, magic is both our form of prayer to the gods and our own manipulations of energy already existing so that we can accomplish a goal.

Wicca doesn't deny science. In fact, it exists in harmony with it. It also realizes that we are as much a part of this world as everything else is. These things (the air, earth, trees, animals, etc) aren't put on this planet for our benefit. We are part and parcel of all life, we are not above it. So what we do, affects everything, and everyone, around us.

You'll find many witches have their own gardens. Many also have a familiar (I have a cat I love dearly). Most do things like recycle.

There is one thing we can't do. We can't force people to love one another. Magic doesn't work that way and your magic can't deny nature because the laws of nature always come first.

If you have any other questions, I'll be happy to answer. But please keep in mind that all witches think differently and will probably give you different answers.

Try http://witchvox.com . You'll find many fellow witches there. And answers to most of your questions.

I agree, don't click on abby's link. The problem with posting this in the religion forum is that you then get bombarded by closed minded christians trying to preach to you.

There are no rules; the thing with Wicca is that it does not have dogma only doctrines (teachings). Things like being vegan may fall under caring for earth and animals, many Wicca are vegan or vegetarian, many Wicca are also environmentalists, but it is not part of the religion, simply a case of doctrines teaching that you should respect nature.

Those who are new to Wicca are often taught the rede and law of return, the rede is 'an if it harm none, do as though wilt' many people take this as meaning 'harm none' but of course this is not the case as apart from the question of how we define 'harm' we also need to harm as part of life – we 'harm' animals and plants for food, we 'harm' each other daily as is a part of life and growth. The law of return is a little more complicated, many take it like a westernised idea of karma (i.e. do something bad, something bad will happen to you) but this is not the case, it is simply, like the rede, a case of cause and effect – if you do something bad then chances are it is going to have bad effects, such as if you said something behind a friends back the consequences would be that you might loose some of your friends. Generally these things are taught to those new to Wicca, most Wicca themselves live by their own personal morals and ethics.

Wicca has specific practices, for example you have to be initiated into a coven in order to be Wicca, this is because as well as a priesthood Wicca is also oath-bound meaning that only those within Wicca are taught about Wicca and they are not permitted to talk about all these things to people outside of Wicca. There in lies one 'rule' which is that generally Wicca do not initiate people under the age of 18, this is because as well as the fact many teens are still experimenting with their beliefs and may not be able to understand things in Wicca, also because of legal reasons as Wicca involves sex, nudity and alcohol consumption. As much as people may wish to argue this, normally people who call themselves Wicca purely for fad value, this is simply how Wicca works.

For a basic look at Wicca check out "Wicca A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham. It gives the basics of the religion and is pretty helpful when chosing other books. It was one of my first purchases when trying to understand the religion.

Do not click on Abby's link, it is full of lies about Wicca by misguided people who are ignorant of the religion. Don't let them deter you from finding your own path.

Wicca is a very special and beautiful religion. It is not evil or demonic as some people try to classify it. One of the best things I could suggest is going to www.witchvox.com and find a group in your area.

You don't have to be a Vegan, that's your choice. A few choose to be.

I, myself, do not.

The elements ARE involved... but, Wicca is a pretty free religion. You choose how to worship, and what rules to follow.

Just remember that whatever you do comes back multiple times, good or bad.

No, there are not dietary restrictions to Practise the religion of Wicca, but certain Traditions or groups, may hope that you follow certain dietary rules, but they'd never require it.

I do this each and all the time. What my spouse and that i do is even earlier the cleansing, we seal the living house. which ability, we've a private ritual, and pass around to each front we are able to think of of interior the living house, burning sage, and make the sign of the penticle (symbolically, no longer actual carving LOL) on the front, asserting "enable no longer something pass this threshold that has harm in that is heart!" thrice. Dont forget living house windows, doorways, fireplaces, -oh and mirrors (they're a metaphysical doorway "in"), easily any beginning to the exterior. as we return and forth to the subsequent 'front', we additionally smudge and say "enable those partitions shop us secure, and shop harm out!" do no longer forget to place your potential into the ritual as you're doing this. we choose to hold palms, by way of fact love is even greater reinforcement. dont forget to characteristic "enable this celing (floor) shop harm remote from above (below) after it is executed, we then build up some potential, and then do the clensing/banishing of negativity- dont forget to banish it from interior the individuals interior the living house as properly, human beings can breed or conceal it interior themselves. then close the ritual in a common way. this holds up for us approximately 4-6 months earlier we commence feeling negativity are available in returned. NO clensing or warding is EVER perminant, you will possibly desire to shop including your potential to the wars on a favourite foundation throuought the 6 months. additionally- it helps to cleanse your self (or maybe in simple terms floor) earlier you step foot returned into your cleansed living house EVRY time (as properly as somebody entering). by way of fact if all people gets indignant or pissed off in the process the day at something, they convey tiny bits of adverse potential returned into the living house- the place it builds up over the years. Cant be helped, we are all human. wish this helps!!
