I considering joining the AF. I am currently enrolled in college, working towards my BS in criminal justice. For those of you IN THE AIR FORCE and in security forces already-any suggestions??

Because you don't capitalize "security service" I think you are asking about the Air Police. They are essentially the A.F.'s police force, like the M.P.s. There is, or at least was (they may have changed the name) an Air Force Security Service which is analagous to the Army Security Agency (A.S.A.). If you want to avoid an overage of boredom, you might look into that.

I'm in the AF and I can tell you unless you want to be bored...i.e. you'll sit for hours next to the flightline guarding an airplane, or you want to pull over the military wife as she does 37 in a 35 mph zone...then you probably don't want to be an AF SP.

If you want to be in law enforcement, join your local force.

On the other hand, if you want to deploy...which you DEFINITELY will...to Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea etc...if you want to serve your country...then join the AF.

One last note--if you enlist the AF, you cannot be guaranteed a job.

If you have a bachelor's degree, you should enter as an officer and get paid more...but an officer SP doesn't do the grunt law work pulling people over etc...you'll be pushing paper behind a desk.

USAF Officer who knows.

There is security service and then there is security forces. Which one are you referring to? Security Service (if it's still called that) is a number of highly classified jobs, higher than even a top secret. Security Forces are like policeman. I had friends of my who were Sp's. You appear to stand around a lot.
