You are correct but what does this mean. You are to be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Read Acts 1:5 when you study scripture you have to read and understand in context. We know by the word that Jesus had to leave so the Holy Spirit could come. Acts deals with the coming of the Holy Spirit as described by Joel the prophet. You cannot just change the subject being discussed by God. We must follow the subject being taught by the Spirit or the traditions of men will take over and the truth will be lost.

We baptize people in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit because The Father is Yahweh, The Son is Yahweh, and the Holy Spirit is Yahweh. The One true God of all Creation, seen and unseen, is a Triune God. The Three persons in this Trinity are Distinct from each other, Equal in their Divinity, and United as One. The reason we are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remissions of sin is because that is part of the covenantal Love of our Triune God. We find this concept in the Biblical witness in many passages but not spelled out for us in one verse. When you look for answers in scripture always look at scripture as a whole and never just one verse. Also take in consideration the Hebrew understanding of Scripture. Baptism for the Hebrews was a an outward show of what they wanted to happen inside (many were hypocrites) but that is what they believed. It is only Jesus who can save us from ours sins but it is not through water but the Spirit. For early Christians, Baptism ment the entering into a loving covenant with God and part of that covenant is God forgiveness. Hope this helps. Enjoy and God Bless!

In Matthew 28:19 it says to be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. And Christ was speaking.

Matthew 3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins

Mark 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

You need to accept Jesus as your savior, and repent of your sins to Jesus, and invite Him into your heart and life: becoming born again first. The water baptism is the open demonstration of your faith in Jesus, by going into a watery grave with your old self and life, and coming up out of the water born again and cleans of your former self.

You cannot do the baptism with out the accepting of Jesus as your savior. Baptism with out acceptance of Jesus as your savior, is just getting wet for nothing.

To be born again is to be baptized in the blood of Jesus who died on the cross for you, and for me. It is a free gift that is their for the simple invitation to Jesus to come into your heart and life.

Haven't you ever seen that famous picture of Jesus knocking at the door? You will see on that picture that there is no door knob on the outer side of that door. that is because the door represents our heart, and Jesus is knocking upon it, and Jesus is waiting for you to invite Him in. That is what salvation and being born again is.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
