These are unconnected. However we need to state a caution. Spiritualism tends to transform itself to ugly fudamentalism as we now see in isolated pockets in Isalm. Its adherents loose balance due to indoctrination and indulge in terrorism and suicide bombings which kill innocents. This is a cause of great concern and is yet an unresolved problem in many parts of the world.

In many cultures and places the mentally ill were considered the blessed children of god(s). Depended of course on HOW they were mentally ill. Well, not always, Jeanne d'Arc was a violent schizophrenic and she was cannonized. (Sainted). Spirituality and mental illness may have links, but they can be interpreted either way. Most often it depends on the prevalent religious and social beliefs of the time and area in question.

I think most people with mental problems are much more in touch with spirituality than those who don't have mental problems. It's like they know stuff, but can't really share it with us because of their illness. I'm gonna have to say no.

Yea, I think so. Ever notice how some of the mentally ill can look so 'spiritual'? The glazed look in the eye, the serene, sometimes inappropriately serene look on their face. Sometimes one has to wonder, "Is that person spiritual... or mentally unstable?" Inevitably, it is a toss up.

Hi, I am Rational Spirituality. From my persepctive, mental illness is an entirely spiritual matter. It may be a challenge given to the person, it may be the result of too many challenges, or it may be a form of purification.

no but mental illness can efect your spirtuality , let me explain i was married to a woman who was mentally ill for 22 years. untill she divorced me. mental illness is ninety percent controlable by medication and pyco therpy. when people are mentally illness their thought process is different from healty peopple. they loose the ability in a lot of cases to comprend whats right and wrong. i will put it this was healthy humans will go from point A to point b in a direct line when thinking. a mentally ill person will go from point A to point H to point F to point Z then maybe to point B all of these illogical steps come into their thought and effect what they believe is right or wrong. their abilty to think things threw is shot. in a lot of cases they will feel the need to find someone who agrees with their thinking so will as twenty people the same question untill they get one that suits their thinking. truth and honesty mean nothing to them. they will forget things and take from other memories to make something make sense. healthy person who dont understand automaticly assume the person is lying. i know of one person who was mentally ill who allowed her boyfriend to discuss the doing of her13 year old daughter. we had to get her back on course to straighten the situtation out. she had possibly put her daughter in danger but saw no wrong in it. the other side of the coin is that if the rest of the family members are not aware of whats going on with this person it can effect them emotionaly and spiritually to
