"But, what you can do for your country?" Do you think this still holds true in a spiritual sense? example backing the right candidates etc.

The best thing that we can do for our Country besides 'Pray' is to vote for canidates who hold true to the family values that we as Americans hold dear to our hearts. We are in the majority so why do we allow the minority speak out in protest to our values? This is the USA, so as a citizen of this great country, lets speak out and vote for canidates who will fight, work, and live for the USA! And for those who thinks that God and Goverment is to be seperated let me ask you....Would you rather have God as an enemy or a friend....because God says that the people who forget God are an enemy of God! I want to live in a country where God is fighting for us against the terrorists, and countries who would love to overthrow us!

Religion has no place in politics.

John F. Kennedy was talking about a hands-on approach to helping the country, e.g. Habitat for Humanity, the Peace Corps, etc.

It was a great speech about social activism as opposed to corporatism. So are you saying people should be opposing the interests of the corporations of America to begin rebuilding a co-operative state where people help each other economically or are you wanting to promote a theistic christian republic.
I highly recommend Reading the whole speech, one of the most famous speeches made by JFK , and possibly part of why he got shot in the head in Dallas by an (ex) cia agent.

I don't think John Kennedy meant it in that sense. He understood the reason for the division of the state and religion. There is a lot that this Country needs done right now .. and a lot of it has nothing to do with religion. Good Luck ! :)

I don't know that it had anything to do with the choice of candidates. I believe it meant more so, "work as not to look to be supported by the government, love and care for the ecology, not limited to conserving energy, as not to use up supplies; pay attention in school, work to go college as not to have to ask for too many grants, etc.

I not only remember it I remember the day Kennedy said it. We should still be living by that motto. Sadly most people are into self and do not even think about what they can do for this wonderful county we live it. If you don't vote then you have no right to complain.

I would say backing the Left candidate is the right thing to do at this juncture. The Foleys of the nation have had their chance and proven themselves to be what they are. Vote Democrat.

Yes, I do remember President Kennedy's speech. So many people today are only interested in what they can get. Many people don't want to give to their country -- just take. It's really sad, is it not?

No. If it's from the standpoint of Christianity, you're not supposed to serve your country, but to serve God. At any rate, the government is supposed to serve the people, not the other way around.

JFK wasn't talking about spirituality or elections. He was talking about volunteering and the Peace Corps.
