I ask was Pope John Paull II a good Catholic? Did he have hatred in his heart for Islam?

John Paul II and Islam

The challenge of Islam runs through the entire pontificate of John Paul II. In his eyes, there should be no animosity between Islam and the Catholic Church. Rather it is an approach toward one another for the purpose of mutual growth in understanding.

No where in the Catechism of the Catholic Church does it say that Allah and the Lord God are the same. If it does, show me where.

You claim John Paul said that "Catholics and Muslims adore the One God", again, show me where. Yes, I want dates.

Let me research this--I have extreme reservations about your ability to put anything into the proper context.

Islam's stated goal is the eventual conversion of the whole world, Debra! Have you actually READ the Koran? I have!! It's NOT a religion of peace---it is the same old litany of hate that the devil has been preaching for milennia.

Read the Koran Debra! KNOW your enemy! Do you think that Catholics are going to get a pass from Islam's evil goals just because John Paul II MAY have said something conciliatory to them?

Your head covering is on too tight, I'm afraid.

--Is Catholic--

In order to be a good Catholic, Debra, do you have to have a problem with Islam. Please read DOMINUS IESUS and then Vatican II.

Islam is a false religion that contains some aspects of truth. This is what Vatican II, the Catechism, Dominus Iesus, etc say. Islam is false because it claims to be the final revelation from God. As a Catholic, this is unacceptable, DOMINUS IESUS does a great job at spelling out why this is unacceptable.

JPII worked long and hard to bring out what was good in Islam and to engage them in a spirit of openness and reciprocity, but he did not ever equate Islam with being on par with Catholicism.

As Catholics, we are instructed to engage Islam and Muslims in an open manner. We are to be honest about what we teach and what they teach. We are to work together towards the common good, even when religious differences divide us.

Much of JPII and post Vat2 is about reawakening a sense of a common shared humanity amongst all peoples and all religions. The religious factor is what informs and drives the Catholic endeavor but brining people to the Faith is almost secondary. We are called to bring out what is good in all things and all peoples, even our selves.

Catholics should never act out of hatred towards other people, but rather we are called to love all others. This does not mean that Catholics cannot have problems with other people or things that are not true. This is being honest as well as the pointing towards a higher reality and actually progressing towards that reality yourself.

The Catholic church is close with Islam. If you are a good Catholic you listen to the "Catholic church" and in doing so you would have no problem with Islam.

The antichrist's false prophet pope has been photographed kissing the Koran, and insists this paragraph #841 be included in the Roman Catholic Catechism.- 841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims.

God bless you, why don't the others follow suite.
If we, Muslims, say that Jesus was a Prophet like Moses and Mohammed, are we insulting him? no way. We have great respect for him. This is our believe, let us be. We are not forcing Christians to believe otherwise. Why judge all of us by acts of the evil ones among us. The suicide-bomers/fanatics even hate us, moderate Muslims, not just you.
Pope John Paull II was easy on the soul (easily liked) I don't have anything against Pope Benedict, despite what he said.

How can any Christian have animosity for another religion? That's what makes a Christian what she or he is. The word 'animosity' comes from the word 'animal' but animals don't hate like people hate. We need to be more Christian or Christian-like and follow the examples of Christ and other great religious figures of lesser height. I don't mean to be a pundit, but I feel strongly about the possible goodness of man and sadness for it's lacking in practice.

There is a big difference between a hatred and a problem. If you have no problem with a view denying Christ that that would be a problem for Christianity because Jesus said He is the only way.

no, Pope John paul showed only love to all peoples. He was the example of what all catholics should be. alas though I cannot be this way, as I see the muslims as a very dark cloud, they themselves have even claimed that they would "conquer rome"
meaning the vatican.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Just as it is unfair to condemn all Catholics because of a few bad priests, it is equally unfair to condemn all Muslims because of a few extremists.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day.

With love in Christ.
