Why do Catholics always try and play down their problem with pedophilia rather then accepting it and dealing?

with it?? All catholics do this why? Even if there was only a single case of pedophilia their actions would still be immoral and unacceptable, so why do they continue to do it?

By "Catholics" do you mean the church or the ordinary churchgoers? I suppose one factor with the church is that "Christ" teaches forgiveness. If you believe the bible, you would probably agree that Jesus would forgive the errant priest "seventy times seventy", believing each time that the priest is genuinely sorry and will not sin in this way again. Unrealistic and naive, yes, but that's how the bible genuinely describes Jesus -- **and that's what Jesus, according to the bible, tells everyone to do.**

In my church we have strong child protection guidelines which are followed strictly.

As a Mother its my job to protect my children and if their Sunday school did not follow the 1989 children's act (UK) they would not attend.

This applies to any organisation that deals with children, girl guides, doctors, nurses, childrens sports, classroom assistants etc.

Whatever your religious views or lack of we MUST protect our children. Many paedophiles live on the coast near to beaches! Where children undress!

They are very crafty individuals who will find vulnerable children through any means available to them. This includes single parents clubs. (Gingerbread is a classic!) They will wait for years for the chance to abuse a child many are parents themselves!!!Beware of men who are overly interested in your children and befriend you in odd ways.

I worked in child protection and believe we are all responsible for our children's safety! This is NOT only an issue for Roman Catholics but for all!

sorry, hon, but it's not just catholics. christians do it a lot, too. there are MANY christian ministers currently on "the chopping block" for pedophilia -- take it from someone who knows, i was a cop for over 10 years, and I took many reports from victims who suffered from abuse by their christian ministers.

it seems they all have one thing in common -- dedication to and belief in the bible.

This is an offensive and assuming question to ask of Catholics. Why not question why there are so many homosexual men who hide behind their faith to play out their fantasies. This is not reserved to catholiscm alone.

The Catholic Curch is similar to the Islamic faith in this instance. That is, although they are horrified with the abuse of their religion, they keep it private and don't let the outside world in. Why? Well you'll have to ask a member of that faith for the answer.

Because Catholics are the world's biggest hypocrites. They're right and everyone else is wrong. Then, when a Catholic does something bad like molest kids, they jusitfy it by saying, "Oh, Satan always works extra hard to get the good ones." Believe me, I've heard it all. I left the Catholic church because i got tired of the hypocrisy. It says in the bible, "By their fruits you shall know them." Most Catholics I know are hypocrites. Speaks for itself.
