I got my kitten (10 weeks old) about two weeks ago. Originally he'd come up and cuddle with me, very loving. Now every time I try to cuddle with him or have him sit on my lap, he squirms away. I've noticed he'd approach my friends and cuddle with them, but not me. Is it because I got a new puppy two days after him and he's....resentful over the fact I pay more attention to the puppy?

He's also gotten the habit of gently gnawing (but he has sharp teeth) on peoples fingers. Sometimes somebody would rub his belly and he'd like it and then attack them with his mouth. How do I get rid of this bad habit?

Thanks.

It might just be his personality. One of my cats loves me, is the best cat ever when I am the only one home, she will sorta hide and be out when my husband is home. But she is completely hidden when anyone else comes over. Then there is my other cat, who will bite you if you rub his belly wrong, its just something that he doesn't like. He used to be my baby before we got our other cat, would love on me and cuddle with me, then we got the other cat, which my husband hates, so he loves on my husband and will only come to me when he wants food. Just a way of getting back at me I guess.

Your little kitten is jealous!!! the good news is that it will pass just give him sometime. Try to act normal like u don't care much about his attitude and be loving and playful.

Cats are very jealous, but they are not mean you just hurt his feelings. My cat, at first did not accept the 2 new cats, even she turned indifferent and 'bitchy'. It took a 1 month and patience.

Your cat and your dog are young so treat them both as brothers.

About the gnawing, it is normal for cats to do that, is the way they play. Buy them some toys.

Here is a web site where you can find all about the psychology of a cat. http://www.entregatos.cl/sicologiagatuna.htm

Is written in spanish but you can translate it in http://www.altavista.com

Enjoy your cat.

Oh, he's jealous of the dog and is trying to make you jealous by cuddling your friends and not you. I would try getting him the new pet-toys that you know he likes and presenting them to him yourself. Maybe even try to start a game with him with the new toy you got him. Start Ignoring the dog in front of the kitten, but when your kitten isn't around cuddle him so he won't get jealous of the cat. And of course your cat doesn't hate you! He's just trying to show you that he wants more attention. Hope this is useful!

He may be jealous, or he may be going through a phase where he doesn't want to be held much. Give him his space, but still talk to him and pet him if he'll let you. Don't try to pick him up if he doesn't want it. Just talk to him and try to pet him occasionally. He may eventually warm up to you again.

As for the gnawing, he's probably teething. We have a 6-month-old kitten (got him when he was 12 weeks), and he does the same thing. He may also just want to play, and when you rub his belly he thinks your hand is a toy. Again, my kitten does the same thing! In general, I don't rub his belly anymore! And if he attacks me at other times, I just tell him "no" and redirect his attention elsewhere. He loves to chew on stuffed animals!

my cat had the same habit when he was little. i just tried to pay as much attention to him as possible. maybe he just doesn't want to be held. he's probably just one of those cats that is'nt a big fan of being held. but, for the gnawing, redirect him when he starts to chew on ur fingers, because it forms the habit of biting when he gets older. and nobody likes a cat that bites.

My cat does that too! I think he just wants you to play with him. Try to play with your cat for a hour or so a day and eventully he will want you to give him more attention so he will cuddle with you!

He is probably trying to play with you. And about the gnawing he 's just playing, my kittens used to do that.
