You probably have a cold. BUT....

If you have strep throat, the bacteria that causes the sore throat can also affect your heart or kidneys if it is not treated. The only way to know for sure whether or not you have strep is to go to a doctor or clinic and be tested.

If it IS strep, then you need to be on antibiotics, and you need to take the full course of antibiotics, even if you feel better before the prescription is done.

If it is NOT strep (or pneumonia, but the doctor will let you know if that's the case), then you should NOT be on antibiotics. Colds are viral, and antibiotics do nothing except potentially cause complications. There is also the larger public health problem of inappropriately prescribed antibiotics, but we don't need to go into that here.

So, get yourself to a doctor.

Classic signs of a bacterial upper respiratory tract infection. You are fine in the morning, but by evening, you are sick as a dog, with a fever, sore throat, tons of mucous, swollen glands etc.

Go see your doctor right away and strong arm him into giving you an antibiotic. Be sure to emphasize that you got sick over a very short period of time and have classic symptoms of a bacterial infection so that he doesn't just pat you on the head and send you home to develop bronchitis or something. Also, be sure to note your temperature during various times of the day and the color and character of your mucous. Important info to help a doctor diagnose you.

You probably have a cold or Upper Respiratory Infection. If you aren't running a fever, go to the store or send a loved one, and load up on some echinesea (sp?), hot teas, ginger root (if you take a really hot bath and put this in with you the fumes will open up a clogged nose), the effervescent tabs that you put in the shower, orange juice or vitamin C, zinc tablets, load up your humidifier and add a little salt to really make it gurgle, and depending on your beliefs, some cough syrup, throat lozenges and hit the couch for the next couple days!

Either you have strep throat, or you're ahving an allergic reaction to something around you. Your best choice would be to go see a doctor and get tested for strep, and then from there, it'll be easier.

It sounds like you need an antibiotic for an infection to recover. Either go to the doctor or at least get some golden seal and echinea from the health food store.
