The brown pelican, peregrine falcon, and california condor are all considered success stories after the discovery that DDT was wreaking havoc on the reproductive capability of these avian creatures. DDT was banned in this country and there was a slow recovery for those species affected. Sadly enough, it, and other harmful chemicals are still used in other countries.

As for biodiversity and deforestation, there are far more stories of failures in these two areas, as more and more pristine forest is lost to urban spral and agriculture, and biodiversity is being lost at a staggering pace. The natural predator/prey relationships have been unbalanced, and natural selection as a process has been weakened by human involvement.

You could say that the fact that you have food to eat at a low price is a perfect example of the success of deforestation. Without major forest clearing in the eastern US, and in Europe before that, agriculture would not be as wide spread as it currently is, which means lower food availability and higher cost for what food is being produced.

Who says the California Condor is a success story? As far as I know they are barely hanging on.
