I live in the US!

My problem is this- I plan to enter into a beauty pageant in the near future. I have passed the Preliminaries and gone to State multiple times in the past but was unable to attend, so I want to really wow the socks off the judges this year (or make them ban me) now that I can get to the city to compete.
I already have a fairly risque dress bought for the Beauty portion, and a much cuter, more flirty one for the Partywear portion. My theme in my representation of myself this year is that I am competing as myself, not your run-of-the-mill typical beauty queen wanna be.
And since I'm being myself, for the talent portion, I want to do pole dancing. No, not stripping or grinding, real tricks that you have to pratice for and strength train to do. I've already picked the outfit and pole.
Would a pole and stage I can wheel away be appropriate? There will be shorty shorts on under the skirt! I'm so proud of my dancing, but I'm afraid I might get negative reactions! Help?

By the way, here are links to the Beauty dress, Party dress, Talent dress, and pole. Since the pole and stage can be customized, I was thinking maybe getting strobes? They make it look cool when you move as you do tricks. And the price is not an object, I'll be using it long after the competition!

Actually, I'm a very feminist girl. I really became interested in pole dancing after I saw what it REALLY was, not just what guys gave me the impression of it being. The beauty pageant thing, most people wouldn't figure me to do it, but I became interested when my cousin suggested it could help my modeling career (amateur right now)

Oh, and the judges, they are actually younger women (late 20s- mid 30s) so they might be more open minded. Since I'm not portraying myself in a slutty way (I'm going to be promoting the volunteer work I'm doing for an abuse survivors support group) I think I can maybe make up for the lack of fabric.
I'm just asking if the pole dance would be a little over the top or something. I'm also thinking of saying a few words before I start about the over sexualization of pole dancing.

Think it would impress the judges to hang onto the pole with only one leg?

I would like to preform in tights, but the shorty shorts are required so that I can get a grip on the pole. And as long as I was wearing some thing that had to be tiny, I decided to make it cute and a testimony to myself.

And no worries, kids will be there, but the only time I do anything inappropriate on a pole is for my man's eyes when I set my removable Li'l Mynx up in the bedroom ;)

Seriously though, dancing wil be clean. Just a few well practiced and fabulous looking spins and tricks...

Yeah, but don't call it "pole dancing". Call it "acrobatics".
"Pole dancing" will hurt you more than help you in any beauty pageant because of the connotations.

Pole dancing is strongly associated with stripping--so, I am thinking that the judges (who are likely to be older fuddy-duddies) will not be impressed with the choice.

If you are a good dancer, can you dance a routine without the pole? Perhaps look at some old Fred Astaire routines and consider using a some different kinds of props (chairs, hat racks, cubes) to show off your dancing/acrobatic skills. All the best to you.

I think it could be acceptable, but it all depends on the atmosphere you set. The outfit should be ok, I think. But I think the strobe lights might be a bad idea. It just puts people in mind of the whole strip club idea. And I'm sure there will be children in the audience, so as long as it's appropriate for all ages I think it might be ok. I'm sure it takes real strength to do that like you said, so if the judges are young women, I'm sure they'll see the that it's a real talent.

sounds like you are all into the stereotype of what male chauvinists like. That is your freedom to do it. But it reminds me of another question here about why muslim women let themselves get oppressed by wearing all those clothes. Pole dancing, beauty contests to me are very similar. You are not going to find out who you really are until you learn how to explore yourself outside of the stereotype. Of course you have the freedom to do what ever you choose but I had to tell you this. women are full human beings and as such have many talents and abilities that cannot be explored if one conforms to sterertype. But then as I said it is your freedom to do whatever you choose. It is also my freedom here to speak my truth!

You finally get to be there and youre gonna do that? I wouldnt, you wont win...simply becuz ppl look down on the pole dancing. Even if you dont strip, they wont like it. It means one thing in most ppls eyes....STRIPPER.

Sounds like your asking for trouble. Two of your outfits won't go over so well. More for playboy modeling then Miss America.

I think it would be okay, as long as it is CLEAN. The judges will be super offended if you are not and will be disgusted.
