I have always wondered if I will ever meet anyone who I will feel comfortable with being the person I REALLY am - you know, the person I am when there is no one else around. Do you think that is very rare, and have you ever experienced such intimacy with someone else?

You hit the nail on the head, that is exactly what I would define as 'intimacy' - when you don't feel the need to 'edit' yourself around them. I have had it briefly, yes I think it is rare but you cannot have a lasting relationship without it.

It takes time and respect. Honesty helps but truly is not always the best policy when it's hurtful. I think that the better friends that you are, not just the "hot and heavy" stuff, the more "intimate" you become. Because if you can be comfortable with someone without talking, without "being sexually intimate" and want to still be with that person, then I think you are on your way to true intimacy.

Of course you will meet that person.
Stop looking and that person will come.

I am myself around my boyfriend. I am TRULY myself and he loves me just the way I am and I love him just the way he is too. : ]
