My first car was a 1936 Chevy Master. A four door, with 3 on the floor and mohair seats. Tell your folks you would like one. I don't think they would have to worry too much about you speeding, although it would easily do 70. It also had an inline six that was very easy to work on. The biggest mistake I ever made was in trading that for a 1954 Oldsmobile convertible. That was black with red leather interior and a V/8 engine. It had a white rag top.

You think monte carlo's or grand prix's are inexpensive cars new or old?

First of all, earn the money yourself to buy YOUR car or you will never learn the value of a buck or how to be responsible with money. Second of all, buy a beater (ie. run-down cars older than 1988) because odds are you are going to crunch it up in an accident before you graduate from high school anyways.

Get a nice car only after you have been driving for many years...and when you can pay for it with your own money.

reliable vehicles that are inexpensive to repair, spare parts are always available, cheap on gas, and are great for kids like you:
chevy cavalier
pontiac sunfire
kia rio

Anything in your price range from a used car dealership that has low mileage and has been checked out by your mechanic to make sure you are not going to get a lemon, and something that is safe, with air bags would be a huge plus.

other than that it really doesn't matter as long as you feel comfortable driving it. looks are not that important in a car no matter what you may see on tv or hear from your friends.

good luck and congrats on getting your first car.

once you say massive, what do you advise, like an SUV or a sedan? i might advise something like a late ninety's Volvo 960 or something. they are good sized autos, incredibly secure, and don't cost an arm and a leg. in case you choose an SUV you will possibly desire to probable inspect something like a Ford Explorer. the situation with buying an SUV is the actuality that your coverage would be extra on an SUV than a common automobile. i might advise a sedan inspite of the indisputable fact that, in case you choose a great sedan, inspect the early ninety's Chevrolet Caprice or something comparable, they are land boats.

a monte carlo and grand prix are good cars but not for a 16 year old, i think a chevy s-10 or a ford escort are good first cars, something small and that does not go very fast. save the fast cars for later years when you are more experienced. good luck.

I would go for the grand prix. Just make sure that it has airbags and anyother safety eqipment that you want. Do not get anything too large because it is hard for new drivers to handle larger automobiles.
