i have sony dvd playr DVP-NS575P. When i switch it on the welcome screen is appearing continuously and not proceed further. I mean all other operations are not occuring. ie i cannot open it or close or even switch it off.
does it indicate a software malfunction or a hardware malfunction. what should i do? can anyone help me in this regard?

That is very weird, but not unheard of. Other DVD players have done some weird things also over time. Still, others have just died an early death with no known cause. DVD players are not known for long term reliability. Try holding the power switch in while unplugging the DVD player. Leave it for a couple of minutes than plug it back in and see if that "cures" the problem. If not, something inside has died an "early" death. At this point, you might as well buy a new DVD player.
