I would pay based on the babysitters age and experience level. But i'd never give 3.50, id do at least minumum wage. I know as a college student people get offers of 10-20 dollars an hour. When I babysat when I was 12/13, I got 100 a week + room/board (over the summer).
Daycares are expensive. I worked at one over the summer and a month was 800 dollars, so roughly 200 a week average (Texas).

A babysitter is different than a daycare. If you want a sitter so you can go out for an evening, you might find a responsible teenager that will work for 3.50 an hour. It's been a while since I used a daycare, but I have a tenant that lives upstairs in my house. She pays $175 for 5 days of daycare. Daycare provider has her son from 7:30 AM until 4:30. This is in PA. Let your fiance do some of the leg work needed to get a sitter or daycare provider hired. He'll learn.

I get paid $10 an hour to babysit two children from 2 to 4. Since the child is so young I would recommend that pay range just because you have to pay for quality care. Definitely make sure you have some good recommendations if you don't know the person.

I pay the daycare $90 a week for a baby and $80/wk for a toddler. Pay a babysitter $20/day for a full day. I dont pay a babysitter by the hour but if i did i would take into consideration how long they would be babysitting and if its at my house or their's. Dont worry about minimum wage. its a babysitter! just pay what u feel is fair.

What century is he living in? Honey, day care is like 180 and up a week. And a nanny is about 300 a week. There's programs you can get on that will discount the price of day care if it's an issue of price. But you could pay a babysitter as well on a long term basis, but if I were you I would get a background check, and make sure they're capable to handle any emergency situations as well.. The price though you would have to work out with the baby sitter. If it's like here and there like if you're going out, I would do a flat rate. But if it's long term I would work it out with them what is reasonable for both parties. I am fortunate because my baby's side of the family loves watching her and she was premature so I never put her in day care for her fear or lack of care and because she would get sick quicker. And my mother watched her and I paid her what I had on each paycheck. Watch where you put your child in day care if you do. I would stick to one person you trust if it's in your budget.

We paid our sitter about $7 and hour we round to the next hour up, if our sitter does extras she gets extras. We had a girl who tidy up, and washed the dish's she used, not because we asked but she was board, yes we knew her very well, and she made an extra $20.
