At the vet clinic where I work (Oklahoma), we charge $28. That is for the microchip placement and the registry with AVID. The veterinarian will place the microchip under the dog's skin on the back of his neck. Their is a special scanner that veterinarian's, animal shelter's and humane societies use that scans the microchip and shows them a number. This number is registered with a company that has all of your information. If your pup gets lost and turns up at vets or humane society, they will scan the microchip, call the company its registered with, and the company will give them your info. They will then contact you to let you know they have your dog or cat. A microchip is not a tracking device and is only helpful if your animal gets taken to a pound, vet, or humane society with a scanner. I suggest getting it done because we have had so many dogs come into our clinic with microchips and we get to see the joy on the owners face when he/she comes to get the dog.

They insert a small rice grain sized chip under the dogs skin, usually in the back of the neck area. They inject it like a vaccine, so it doesnt hurt, and doesnt require any special care afterwards. When a dog is found, it is taken to the vet where he/she uses a microchip scanner to see if the dog has one, and it then reads the information off of it. Usually a phone number is called, and the code from the microchip is given to the operator, who then looks up the dogs information to give to the vet...and then your dog gets home.
Obviously, it is dependent on whoever finds the dog to get him to a vet - so youd usually put a collar on with a license tag that says "im microchipped, take me to the vet!" or something along those lines. But some would still probably keep the dog for themselves. Its imperative they have a collar though, most people ignore dogs without collars because theyre afraid theyll be dangerous or something.
It can cost anywhere from 15.00-200. I know here the SPCA does it on designated days for 20.00. Our vet wanted to charge 57, but I saw some vet pages online where it would cost 175.

Check with your vet. They are put into the dog with a needle (they are small microchips) between the shoulder blades. There is no pain as it is just like a rabies shot to the dog. AVID is the best one. The vet will give you a tag with the number on it and papers to register it with AVID. If the dog gets out, he can be scanned by the pound or a vet and find out who his owner is. Most vets and pounds have scanners that can read the AVID chip. Not so with other ones on the market. Both my boxers are microchipped. It costs 25-35 dollars at the vet.

In your area you would have to call a vet to get a price, but in Illinois ours cost about 150 for a large dog. The chip isnt any spectacular GPS or anything, which is what i first thought when i bought a dog with one in it already. Microchips are just like a barcode for your dog. If it gets lost and someone takes it to a shelter or vet, the first thing they usualy do is check behind the ears and on the hips for smaller dogs to see if it is chipped. If you keep your info up to date the chip will tell them your name, the dog's info, possibly medical history and any allergies, your address, and even phone number. This is the same for anyone whos dog is stolen, if that person ever takes the dog to a vet the vet will almost always check to make sure the chip matches the owner.

It is fairly inexpensive. Your vet can give you an exact price but I know the humane society in our area was offering them for like 10 bucks. It is a little microchip that contains your address and phone number that they insert in the back of the animal's neck. Then if the animal gets lost whoever picks it up can scan the back of the pet and find your information so they don't get sent to a shelter. My pug has one. It doesn't ever bother him and you can update the information if you move.

It costs about $25 plus the vet visit, whatever your vet charges for an appt. Good choice microchipping can help you get your dog back should it ever get lost.

Microchips in my area cost about $50.00. Your vet will inject the chip under his skin, there is really no pain involved.
Note: If you have this done, please make sure that you register your pet with the company that makes the chip. I have found in the past that people chip their pet and forget to register them.

the cost varies wherever you are but it is well worth it. If you love your pet you should get it. If he or she ever gets lost you will most likely get him or her back because of the chip.
