Ok..if you are dumb enough to accept this bet then you should know the results. Everyones spine is different so not only can you compress the spine and cause mild to severe injury and herniated disks, but even with a helmet you run the risk of a mild concussion.
Compression injuries can result in a condition known as transverse myelitis..look it up!
Spend the 20lbs on a night out on the town...much safer.

According to recently invented scientific data there is a 84.7% chance that you will crush 3 or more vertabrae, suffer irreversible damage to your spinal cord, and live out the remaining 14.2 years of your life on a ventilator as a quadraplegic. On the up side, anybody who does something that stupid has zero chance of suffering brain damage.
So, what's holding you back?

At the speed you can run at (assuming you're not a professional athlete) I would be very surprised if you could manage to give yourself spinal injury. I think the worst you might suffer is light whiplash. For £20 it maybe isn't worth the risk, up to you. £50 might be more tempting though...

Oh yes. The crash helmet protects only head and not your spinal cord. Especially whiplash injuries are known to occur in such patients.

why don't you tie a bit of rope to the helmet and swing it as if you are throwing the hammer, that should give it a fair dent.

DUH, DUH, DUH!!!, Listen up, if you attempt such a ridiculous stunt, of course you can experience a severe spinal injury, ranging from minor, to death, from paralyzes. You could even lose use of your hands to the point you couldn't smoke the stuff anyway. Could also cause severe brain damage, even with a helmet. However judging from this total ridiculous question, I would speculate your already have a strain on that old brain. Don't do it, even if you were slightly injured, believe me YOU NEED WHAT BRAINS YOU HAVE LEFT.
