6-8 weeks is average, but some puppies will wean themselves at 5 weeks and some as late as 12 weeks. Start weaning the pups when they are around 5-6 weeks and once they start eating solid foods, it is safe to take them away from mom.

Puppies start eating solid food at about 4 weeks, and are usually weaned by 6-7 weeks. But should remain with littermates and mom until 8-9 weeks. This is a vital learning time for them, and they learn things like bite inhibition (how to not hurt playmates with their teeth) and how to interact appropriately. Adult dogs who get to spend this time with their mom and littermates are most often more socialized and stable pets.

When we picked up our Pomeranian puppy from the breeder, they told us that we could take her home with us at 10 weeks old, and she had been eating solid food for about 2 weeks when we took her home. She told us that she put the puppies in their own kennels at 9 weeks. She said that if a puppy has already been sold before 10 weeks, they did allow them to come and visit their puppy before the 10 weeks delivery date.

I just went thru this with my Yorkie having pups. All the answers are correct. Six weeks minimum to eight weeks. Just don't make the mistake I did. My dog had 4 pups and I allowed them to breast feed for almost eight weeks. They ended up depleting all of my dogs calcium and she almost died! BE SURE to take your mommy beagle to the vet to check her calcium level while she's breast feeding. If you notice that she seems very weak or wobbly when trying to walk, take her to the vet ASAP!!

6-8 weeks before they can be sold. Mom should wean them at about 5 weeks and then you supplement with baby cereal and a puppy formula available at pet stores.

I separate at 6 weeks. After that my moma dog starts getting really irritated with her pups. I started introducing soggy puppy food at 3 weeks, and they were weaned by the 6th week.
