I had my first and only child at 39, he is a very healthy, intelligent, normal and active 6 yr old. I breast fed him past the one year mark without any problems, he never had a pacifier or bottle. I am planning to marry the love of my life soon. We would like to have at least one child together, maybe more. If you look at the statistics today, many people wait until they are settled in their careers before getting married; let alone starting families. Consult a good OBGYN who is knowledgeable on childbirth in women over 40, good luck and God Bless you!

It all depends on your health. If your doctor okays it, then things should be okay, just make sure you take your prenatal vitamins, eat healthy, that is very important , folic acid, iron, and omegas are essential for your baby's developement ( not to mention others)
If you smoke, it is best that you quit so that you do not risk a higher chance of having a premie. Eat right, get a bit of excersise, such as walking... if you haven't started aerobics before you get pregnant, don't start while you are, just keep it light, and keep active! swimming is good, and so is walking and bike riding... oh do your kiegle excersises! Start now!
Enjoy your pregnancy ! you may have to have more frequent doc visits, but if you keep up to what your doc says... you'll be fine! There may be some risks, but there is with every pregnancy, take it easy the first trimester... less stress the better...

Physically whether or not you can sustain a pregnancy is between you and your docotor.
Chronolgically you are going to be about ten to fifteen years older than the parents of your child's peers. Do the math, you'll be fifty what when he turns 10...sixty what when he is twenty.....are you up to raising a third child or are the two girls enough?
Talk with your husband some more. Find your path.

You are not too old. As long as you have your mind in the right place and can be a good parent, I say give yourself a year or two to try to conceive. However, I would suggest not getting all your hopes into it either. Sometimes it can be difficult to have a baby. If you are able to conceive and carry a child to term, it's a gift. If it happens, great. if not, it sounds like you still have other wonderful people in your life.

I had my last baby at 40. It was a wonderful experience and I am a totally different person at 40 than I was at 24 when I had my first baby. I'm more relaxed, not so into myself, know what parenting skills are important and which aren't. Older parents make better parents - we are much wiser and understand the value of life, health and family. Relax and enjoy this new phase in your life!

Hwy Kermie,
My best friend just had a baby at 42, there are precautions that your Doctor can give you, but besides being tired a lot and the normal aches and pains of being 40 there is nothing to worry about.

The usual problem with older women (over 30) is getting pregnant at all. After that the only thing you really have a higher incidence of is trisomy 13 (Down's Syndrome). Good luck.

NO!!!
My mother was 39 when I was born and 42 when my youngest sister was born. We are both perfectly normal and have had 9 normal children between the two of us.

I believe if you allow yourself to stop being scared, youl'll have a baby sooner. There are women who have perfectly healthy babies at 45 & sometimes older. So relax & know you have a lot of love on your side to help you through this, okay? Good luck & God bless all of you.
