Jesus is the so called lamb of god who shed his blood when he was crucified. when the Jews were slaves in Egypt the angel of death passed over all the houses and would take the first born son from the Egyptians this was the tenth plague.God told the Jews to kill a lamb and smear its blood on there door post and the angel of death would pass over them. just as the put the blood of the lamb above there door we put the lamb of God above our door. i guess it is more so for protection.
