My Dad has severe allergies to MSG.

MSG, or monosodium glutanate, is Accent and found in Old Bay Seasoning and Cheetos. It's a flavor enhancer.

If you are cooking for someone or opening a restaurant, go through all of your ingredients to see what has MSG in it. Let your guests know. They will appreciate it.

If you are allergic to MSG, call a restaurant that you plan to go to. Ask the Manager if any of the ingredients used in the kitchen contain MSG. Some will happily check for you, others will say "I don't know."

Lawry's Prime Rib uses in their Spinning Salad dressing.
Napa Valley Grill doesn't have anything containing MSG.
McCormick's & Schmidt uses Old Bay Seasoning.
The Stinkin Rose won't say one way or the other.

I believe it is & some people are quite allergic to it. I personal believe it has a great effect on the weight problems people have today. Effects their matabolizm. Especially in children. For sometime product list the initials MGS, you knew it was there. Past few years I often couldn"t find it. I heard the manufactures had broken the initials down to chemical names. While it is still there who understands these chemical names. The only way I know to get rid of it is cooking my own food. I know whats in it. My husband is sensitive too it.

In large doses it can cause temporary facial paralysis. This has happened to diners in Chinese restaurants on occasion.

However, in small amounts it is very useful for enhancing flavours, although I would not like to use it except on the odd special occasion.
