Probably cautious, maybe a little scared - depends on your cat. It is not really safe these days to let your cats run around loose outside. A lot of people aren't aware that cats (especially unaltered males) can contract feline aids and other diseases.

I worked for a vet for years and you'd be surprised just how often this happens. Someone who obviously loves their cat would bring it in because it was sick. We'd run the tests and sadly, have to tell the owner that their cat has aids or something else that is almost as serious. They were not only devastated, they were unaware that cats could get aids.

The world is changing and sadly it is not as safe for our pets to spend their time outside as it was years ago. We need to do our best to protect them. There are a lot of dangers outside, we used to see the results of them at the animal hospital.

Good luck.

My cats were indoor cats for the first 2 years and then we moved from an apartment to a duplex...after the first winter there I started letting them out each day for a little while but stood there with them and brought them back in. Since it was new to them they acted very cautious. Eventually they stayed outside on their own and learned to explore more. That was 3 years ago. Now I have one cat that is out most of the time (I try to bring her in at night) and one cat that only goes out when the weather is nice...she won't go out at all during the winter.

Probably pretty scared. My black tortie was an outside cat when we rescured her. She has NO interest in going outside. When I am able to convince her to come onto the screened-in back porch, she slinks around and only stays a few seconds. I believe, on some level, that inside cats that were once outside know how fortunate they are. Are you putting a cat outside permanently? Please don't. The average life span of an outside cat is only 5 years. Inside cats live 12 - 20 years on average.

watch them for a while as u dont know how they will react, they will be curious for sure and explore the new environment, a lot of sniffing...but what u need to watch is them going too far, then coming accross kids who might decide to keep them..observe them as cats like human beings are all different....

Scared sh*itless. Any cat that is introduced to the outdoors for the first time is usually pretty spooked by it.

I wouldn't let her out. She hasn't learned the ropes, and most often these older cats end up(pardon the expression) road kill. Take her out on a leash if you insist on believing she wants out.
