Visit each place. Have your senses open, not just your logic and concerns about how much money. Ask to go to the bathroom. (Are they clean?) Wander a bit and see what's on bulletin boards. Ask if your child can spend an hour with the children his/her age and you simply observe. When you're casually walking about, look for signs of pissed off employees, dirty floors, inadequate play equipment, safety issues.

The fees really vary.

Where to find? There are 800 numbers of places that will give referrals. In some counties, there is a childcare office that will give you names of licensed caregivers. Go to large churches in the area and look at their bulletin boards or call their offices.

I've used unlicensed caregivers frequently especially if I had a personal referral to them. These are usually family situations. My children learned Spanish automatically because the babsitter I used until they were 3 spoke no English (I had all emergency instructions translated into Spanish and placed in a binder for quick access.) They were totally bi-lingual at age 2. My granddaughter loves her babysitting family because they adore her and provide her with much needed socialization in terms of an older set of siblings.

Infants cost more than toddlers because there's a need to do more one-to-one with infants. I think the current guidelines for infants are 3 infants to 1 adult; for toddlers, it's 6 toddlers for 1 adult.

Simple go to the site below. There is tons of info for daycare. If you want a specific area search you can use the google search on the home page of the site as it is daycare specific. Try "daycare washington or vincennes indiana" to find what you need.

I know the internet is scary but we have found our daycare lady and our weekend babysitter off a website that is for classifieds. They have them for all areas....

www.craigslist.org and click on the city closest to you, then look under "childcare"
you can post or reply to ads and it's all free! Good luck.

and with anything, SCREEN the folks that you contact, it is still your child you are talking about and you CAN find good reasonable safe folks for your child!

my daycare charges 80 for toddlers and 100 for infants. You just go and see which ones you like which ones you can afford and enroll them the first week drop by anytime you want on your lunch breakk whenever just to see whats going on if your kid likes it...make sure the child doesnt see you because its heartbreaking to leave them to go back to work dont forget to ask them about it everyday...goodluck i hope you find one!
