the states new york, new jersey, and new hampshire if there were never old york, hampshire, or jersey?

York, Jersey, Hampshire are all cities in England... The ones in America were named "New to differentiae from the ones in England and to remind the settlers of home.

There were old Hampshires, York and Jersey. They are in England. Many of those "New" names are named after older towns or cities in the mother lands.

I've wondered that, too, but never got an answer. Maybe because they came from Yorkshire, Jersey and Hampshire. England has a Yorkshire. Let me know, what you find out.

York, Hampshire and Jersey all are in Great Briton.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly sure since the settlers came from England, those were all places in England.
