You did say the refrigerator, and what kind of marinate is it??, as it is beef not poultry, the structure of meat may be very soft, but as far as poisonous as the other yo-yo's have said, I am a former chef and sometime certain menu items get left, by the way Ponderosa's steaks are all marinated in an artifical seasonong agent to make them tender as they use undergrade Australian beef.
Cook it if the smell of the meat as it is frying or broiling is foul or if you notice as it cooked a liquid seeping from it or foam, then the meat is bad, besides any marinated meat you buy in the grocer's freezer case has been in the marinate for weeks if not months, and freezing accelarates the process, just like vacuum processing, it your call ,if it was and expensive cut , see what happens, don't be swayed by all the so called experts on Yahoo questions, half of them don't know what there talking about, I do I spent 20 yrs in the Hotel industry in Canada and Carribean.

That would be a pretty long time. Though what you are marinating it in will kill a lot of bacteria, other bacteria can begin to form after 24 hours. So the best thing I would say don't cook it, don;t eat it. Chuck it, and get a new steak and marinate it for no longer than 24 hours.

Yes it will make you sick. 12 hours is the longest time used for marinating a steak and it would have to be a very cheap tough cut to need it for that long.

Do NOT eat that! Throw it out. LOL The longest amount of time I would leave any type of meat in the fridge is about 24 hours.

In a word: No. It will not make you sick. I prefer to marinate my beef , chicken, or pork for 72 hours so that the intensity of flavor will come through. For example: For beef or chicken fajitas, I marinate them in liquid smoke and lime juice. Anything less than 72 hours and it doesn't taste the way I want it to.

I wouldn't eat a 4 day old steak, but then I'm kind of picky. I wouldn't go longer than 2 days.

Oh my gosh, yes. Although a marinade can help meat stay fresher a little longer, by preserving it somewhat, 4 days is still way too long! I would say no more than 2 days.

When in doubt toss it. However 2 hours to 24 hours tops is your timeframe for marinating.
