anyone know if I can use these with out guide plates?

I wouldn't run anthing other than bog-stock without them.

Pass on that. Get the fulcrum roller rocker set up. They also come in a 1.7 which will give you a little more breathing. I bought mine through Ford and you will need to shim them, but a good way to gain HP through less friction in the motor. Underdrive pulleys do the same thing.

Yes ,They look like the rail type , but there also a ball and fulcrum type. I buy rollers all day long on ebay for that price.
