one pint is 2 cups, for example one pint of milk is 2 cups of milk. Pints measures the volume of something *how much space it takes up*.

One pound is always 16 oz, a pound measures the weight of something. 2 cups of milk is 16 oz but 2 cups (one pint) of apples or peanut butter or anything else may not weigh 16 oz.

If you want to know how much volume the cottage cheese takes up put it in a measuring cup. You will see that how much space it takes up depends on how much you squeeze it in. A packed down 16 oz of cottage cheese will still weigh the same but take up much less space in the measuring cup then 16 oz that you loosly spoon in.

The first thing they taught us in baking school is that a pint is a pound the world around. Except in weighting molasses, honey and heavy corn syrup.
