Yeah, it's silly. But I'm looking for some feedback on why people take what could be a normal question from a person that may not literate in English, and give a stupid, or nonsensical answer. Yes, the "retard" questions and others like that, I make fun of also. But those are obvious. I'm talking about a possible "real" question where the asker is just not up to snuff in the grammar department. (Not to mention the knuckleheads that put in a stupid response just for the points.) Thank you for the info in advance. Ciao!

Many thanks GJB. I missed putting in the "be". I stand accused of being the type of person that will shorten anything I can get away with on the computer. It does look like I am trying to make "literate" a verb though, does it not? My English teacher is spinning in her grave. (Although I hope the 'ol gal ain't dead.)

Many thanks to all of you. Including the one idiot so far. I will have a very hard time figuring out the best answer here. Even if you don't get the big points, I appreciate your help.

Well, two idiots. Sorry I fell behind.

The answers keep on coming! And they get better and better! Perhaps we can all send something like this and it will be a case of "Physician, Heal Thyself".

Some people who have poor self-esteem momentarily puff it up by acting that way. Makes them feel briefly superior. Too bad.

To "tuckdar": "Literate" is not being used as a verb. Check its usage. (I used to teach English.)

I guess most people missed the lesson that "There is no such thing as a stupid question."

People seem to get off on feeling superior, that knowledge is elite. Maybe there some sort of fundamental behaviour gene encouraging Those Who Know to want to make others feel inferior. It is a behaviour that helped build society - but in 2006, isn't the idea that everyone should have opportunity and access to knowledge and information? That's sort of the point with the internet -and this kind of online Q&A is a great way to reinforce it. No one is an expert at everything. Everyone has something to learn and some knowledge to share, regardless of their deficiencies in other areas.

I would suggest to people who ridicule the questions: "Would you rather that they not ask the question and never get any kind of answer?"

A silly question in coherent English is fair game for everything from gentle mockery to sharp sarcasm. But if I suspect that the asker has merely misunderstood a word or mis-stated the question, then I will attempt to set things straight ("I believe you meant....") before answering the question.

As for silly questions from those who appear to be non-native speakers of English, I usually avoid those for two reasons: a) I may not understand the actual meaning, and b) I may not be able to answer in a way that the asker could understand.

To answer this question would be a speculation of what the stupid ask-er and the stupid answer-er might be thinking. Now if you want the real answer then go straight to the source and ask the person answering the stupid or silly question. Then you will have real feedback and I think that is what your looking for. But remember we all have freedom of speech and if you don't like it you have the power to move on.

Why ask when there have been so many questions like this on the board for the past month? Whether they are resolved or not you can use the search for questions and probably find the answer to this question. Oh, it is time to not reply to Retard since so many of his questions make no sense and clog the boards. that is my opinion anyway and everyone is entitled to their own.

Well, for one...ppl do it, cuz they cant resist. Other ppl do it, to be be mean, plain and simple. The main reason they do it...is cuz they can. They might get reported, but then again, they might not.

Its just the way of the world. More and more, ppl are ruder than ever. Ive seen many of these questions like yours in the past few days. More and more, ppl are asking this....and its just cuz ppl feel its easier to be mean than nice. They think theyre funny when they make fun of something or someone.

Nope, most likely no longer..If we had advocated that to the girl, the sector might by no means have Beethoven, might we? And although candidate C seems like a person with disciplines,he is also the person who was once merciless and probably the most popular dictator,,Adolf Hitler,so I'd move with A or B Most global leaders or politicians r crooks besides.

I love a silly answer as much as anyone but to make fun of people who are trying their best to write in English is just mean spirited. I Do have a problem with people using "Computer Speak" e.g. B4 my bf etc. That is just lazy.

You will find rude people everywhere, but especially in the religion section of Yahoo Answers. Not that so many people who post here are in any respect religious.
We need to grow up and respect others.
Oh, and I love the 'Retard' questions too! Laughing Out Loud to them!

I, sometimes, just throw in something funny because I'm in that kind of a mood, but I try not to be overtly rude to anyone unless they are - by their own words - asking for it.

Some people are just angry, dissatisfied and evil b*st*rds who can't resist making someone else unhappy, that's all.
