Did Jesus say you have to be baptized to be saved?

So Jesus was lying, or did not know what He was talking about. His words are not to be followed.
Incidentally, the thief on the cross did not have the gospel preached to him. The death, burial, and resurrection had not yet occured. This is the gospel.
So, if the words of Christ mean nothing, then what is your docrine based upin?

Indeed, but keep in mind that the baptism of Christ is not of water but of the Holy Spirit. While not to discourage water from being used at baptismal ceremonies, it is not a requirement for baptism. For this reason, Jesus told the thief on the cross, who had never been baptized with water, that he would be in "paradise" with Jesus that day! Also, John said, "one who is greater than I is coming...He will baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire..."

The point is why would you get baptized if you didn't believe? Baptism is like making a public confession that you believe and it is done in obedience to Christ. It represents the death of your old life and the rebirth in to Christianity....salvation always comes before baptism, and once you are saved you want to be baptized.

No...When Jesus was crucified he said to one of the men being crucified with him "To day you shall be with me in paradise".
Was he baptized?
What is the heart of the law? If you can answer this question you will understand Gods salvation for us all.
Salvation is a journey not a destination.
Are you so much into the word of the law and not the spirit?

No you do not have to be baptized to be saved. Just by your confession of faith you will be saved.
Baptism is a physical show of faith or renewal of faith and if your motives are pure is a good thing to do but not a requirement. That gets into legalism, which Jesus was against, and religious doctrine. Jesus was not about religion he was about love and helping people and showing the way to true love and peace.

No and I don't like it when churchs put that stipulation in to be saved or to join their church. Baptizing in my church is something you do after you are saved to be a symbol of our new birth. We were saved and now we wash ourselves clean of sin. I belonged to a church that baptized babies so they could go to Heaven and a lot of those babies grew up to take the wrong road. Now if they don't change their ways and get saved they won't see Heaven even tho they recieved baptism as babies.

Technically, it says that:
If you believe AND you're baptized, you will be saved.
BUT: if you are baptized but DON'T believe, you will be damned.
So... even if you're baptized, it doesn't guarantee that you'll be saved.
If you want to play your cards right, focus more on believing than being baptized.

Well I don't believe in the gospels but logically speaking A&B (believe + baptised) = saved.
-A (disbelief) = damned.
...but -B (not baptised) is not specifically mentioned int the verse, so it's impossible to comment on the ramifications of abaptism.
Luke.
