I firmly believe we need to enlist the services of a maid at my house. My mother works a full time career as an accountant and by the time she comes home is really too tired to do much cleaning. During the summer when my schedule was a bit lighter I was able to take care of the cleaning but in the school year I have to juggle my 6 classes with a part time job and I barely have time for dishes and laundry. Our house is in sad shape and the rest of my family are sloths when it comes to chores. When I brought up hiring a maid this morning my Mom started yelling like I was personally attacking her. This is not the first time we have argued about this issue, but I wish we could try out hiring a maid just for one week to see how she does. Mom doesn't even want to give it a chance and she's too angry with me to discuss it further...Dammit I wish we had a maid to help out!

Make a chore job for the people who are just sitting around. You might also find a roommate and move out on your own.

You've got a real point there. Sounds like the best solution. Too bad your mom won't listen.

The only thing I can suggest is paper and plastic goods for the kitchen (probably cheaper than a maid), and everyone does his or her own laundry.

In other words, let the slobs at your house live in their own slop, until they get enough and want to clean up.

Apologize to your mom for the misunderstanding. And make it clear to her that it's not HER job ALONE to take care of the house. Then suggest a family meeting with the 'sloths' to establish some guidelines, so that EVERYONE has strong responsibilities in the home.

Maids cost money. If everyone chipped in a little bit things probably wouldn't be so bad. I live in a busy household too, with no maid, but we all do certain stuff and eventually it gets done. If not, you could always move elsewhere . . .

your mom probably was the maid for awhile and now housework is taking a backseat, its not the end of the world. who would have to pay for this maid, your mom might have to work even longer hours to pay for it, get the ones that dont do anything to do something or else maybe they wont have clean dishes to eat off of or clean clothes when someone stops doing these things for them maybe they will get off their butts and help you out. good luck to you

Please write you Mom a note telling her that you wernt trying to tell her that she was a slob but that you thought it would make her life easier. I personally would never allow someone else to clean my house and sometimes it can get a little grungy because I have a life but I just dont feel comfortable letting someone else do it.
