I struggle with making the decision of having a traditional burial upon my leaving this world, (yes, I am a "Wise" OLD woman!) which is expensive; or going with the idea of cremation. My religious teachings cause me to believe that I will need my body intact. (For what I do not know). The idea of cremation appeals to me for financial reasons as traditional funeral costs are exhorbant. What do you think about the preservation of the body in death?

Is there a religious scholar that might add a point of view in making such a decision regarding ones body in death as it relates to our spiritual after life? While the answers I have received have given me some thoughts to ponder and are very logical; I am however, looking for a Christian Scholar to offer some supportive documentation on what a Chrisitan is required to do with their dead body. Ultimately, my answer WILL come from within. However, in sharing our views with each other, we can ponder over each different thought, then Wonder, Watch and Wait for Wisdom. I appreciate each answer very much. Thank you for taking the time to share your beliefs with me.

To my knowledge only one person was cremated in the Bible, right at this moment I can't remember who it was, but he was a Christian and other members of his church took his body down so it wouldn't be ridiculed and mocked and they burned the body.
I personally don't believe in it, however funeral cost are expensive unless you get a pine box! The Bible does say that those that were buried at sea will be resurrected for judgment, Revelation 20:11-15. Christ was placed in a tomb, and since there was only one cremation in the Bible who knows? I'd say if you have life insurance go for the burial. Or at least making payments on one.

I think you have a misconception about burial. Your body will decompose anyway except for mostly bones. Embalming only preserves the body for a few days so you make a good looking corpse for the viewing. So if you want to be cremated then you should do that. I have done a lot of research in last few months and learned much about the funeral industry. Try this link for some info http://www.funerals.org/. There are a lot of websites and information on the Internet.

this is indeed a question we all face at some point. I understand you concerns as I have had them as well. I believe the answer is within us when we can answer our own question of what happens to us when we die? IMHO the body is to be blessed for its use for the time we are here but its purpose is over when our soul leaves the body. Any organ information is man created guilt and misconceptions of truths. Since I live in the north I like the idea of being Cremated.

I don't think it matters cause all kinds of things happen to bodies here on earth that make them unusable when God comes to take the dead first. I think there is a verse in the Bible that says we will be given new bodies and a white robe.

What went through my head relied on the situations, so it different from ask your self, defeat, melancholy to attractiveness and alleviation. The worst journey grew to become into my father's loss of existence. That photograph would be continuously imprinted in my suggestions - severe disappointment. What a curious question!

It doesn't matter what is done to the body, you will rise whole and sound. If it did, what of all those saints burned at the stake or otherwise abused by the people of their day?
I myself prefer to be cremated and my ashes scattered on the ground. I'm kind of claustrophobic.

If God needs that actual molecules that inhabited your body for resurrection, since He is all powerful, He could pull them together from anywhere. Cremation will not have any affect on His ability to resurrect you.

Why does it matter so much to you. Your dead.
Cremation is by far cheaper.
