Because cats are lactose intolerant. They lack the enzymes to properly digest the milk sugars. At best, it will probably give the cat diarrhea. And then there are cats like mine.....who pukes within a matter of minutes if he gets into any milk.

Dogs and cats do not have the proper enzymes to properly break down the sugar in milk which is called 'lactose.' You may have heard of people who are lactose-intolerant. They are also missing these digestive enzymes. If the proper enzymes are not present, the lactose remains undigested and tends to ferment in the intestine and cause diarrhea. Some pets can tolerate a little milk, others, none at all. If your pet enjoys and appears to tolerate milk, you can give your pet small amounts. Better yet, give your pet one of the special cat or dog milks on the market that have had the lactose removed.

This is from another question I answered.
After a kitten is weaned (the mother stops nursing it) a kitten/cat should NEVER get milk.
First of all, that milk that is in the stores is usually cows milk and is very hard on their stomachs
Second cats are lactose intolerant, it means it will make them sick!
Third consult a local vet for dietary needs! That is something you shouldn have done before you got any animal.

You can give cats a little milk, but make it semi-skimmed and add some water to it. Just remember milk is a food, not a drink.
If you do find their bowels loosen, then don't do it again, but some cats are fine with it. I give my two kittens a little about once a month and hey are fine. The rest of the time they get water, and their treats are raw fish, dental chews and catnip drops.

The vast majority of cats and dogs are lactose intolerant. Therefore cow's milk affects them just like it does to people who are lactose intolerant.

They get dierrhea, especially kittens. Older cats can drink some milk, if they don't have diarrhea afterwards.

It's not good for their digestive system. If you want to give them milk you should give them Kitten milk, you can find it at petstores.
