I'm planning on taking a flight, but I don't know how early I should arrive. I need to make sure I don't miss my flight, so how early should I arrive to allow security and stuff? I'm not taking any luggage, but on the way back I am. How long should I give it? I mean, I have to travel 47 miles somewhere, then back, which I estimate is about 2 hours. My flight gets there at 11:05, and my other flight leaves at 1:20, if I choose that one. Will I have enough time? Should I take a different flight?

Thanks /so/ much!

depends on the airport. large airports that handles international travel (Chicago, NYC's JFK, Newark, etc) usually have long lines at the check-in counter, no matter what time of day. for these, i'd try for 1:30-2hrs. small airports that only handle regional flights are usually really empty, so 1-1.5hrs is fine. however, the airline will always tell you to arrive 3 hours beforehand (which really isn't necessary). if you have no luggage to check, then 1 hour before would be ok... you'd be going straight to the security gates right away (assuming you use the e-ticket machines to check in and print tickets). security times can vary; generally it's never taken me more than 15min to go through regardless of the airport (though i have taken flights at 7am where there is a mad rush and it takes 30min to go through security).

Most airlines recommend that you arriave at the airport about 2 hours before your departure time. These days "security checking" is intense and takes a longer then usuall. Even if you do not intend to get that early, consider the unexpected road traffic on the way.

Since you have to travel 47 miles on a jet,
i suggest you cancel that air-ticket. Say good bye to that travel agent too, and start walking, you might get there faster!!!

Is it possible that you missed some numbers where you have typed 47 miles (or is it really there for our heads to spin! anyways, thanks a bunch, i loved your question.)

When you buy your air-tickets, the next departure time has enough time for you to get to the next airplane/destination unless you run-away from that airport or get lost inside!

Just make sure you are about 2 hours early on your first-airport, then the rest is pretty easy.... you will fly!

Have a nice flight.

Get there like a hour and a half before your flight leaves.
