Well thats the era I grew up in. I admit I do have a couple beaded curtains and a couple pepsi crates with nicknacks in them and some old tins on a shelf, but should I be offended? Seems this younger generation is wearing alot of clothes that look like what we wore in the 70's. How should I take that comment?

Give that comment all the consideration it's worth...NOTHING.
Don't invite her over anymore.

1st of all, your coworker wasn't even alive in the 70's, how the hell could he know what the 70's looked like, he's going by what's popular "retro" now. If you're happy with your house the way it is, who cares what the little boy says. If he meant it as an insult, don't invite him over again, have a office party and "lose" his invitation, if he confronts you about it, simply tell him you didn't want to subject him to your 70's house again since it bothered him so much.

Hey, tell her to look in the mirror. the only things missing from decor is the avocado and gold thing. If you're happy with the house, ignore her.
It's an expression of your taste, not hers or some decorator's.
If you look around, the similarities with the 70's are startling. We've got a war that nobody wants and they can't get out of...an energy crisis...the fashions...people downsizing their gas-guzzling cars for smaller ones...welcome to 1972!

in my living room is a 1947 RCA Victor AM / FM / SW / phono system, all tube of course. On top is a 1974 lava lamp right next to a 1947 Northern Electric telephone. All in great working condition. I have a wind up grammophone on the other side of the room.

Nothing wrong with appreciating retro items, as long as you aren't living in the past as well!

Don't place too much importance on the words of a 20-year-old. :) But if you want to update, check out the websites on redecorating cheaply. It might just take a fresh coat of paint and a couple of lamps for your place to look modern.

And frankly, that kid had no business saying anything like that. She'll grow out of her rudeness...hopefully.

Just tell her your are really into retro. I personally feel a person should decorate their space in the way they like. It's really nobody's business. Each person has their own taste and how they want things to look. Everything that once was is now again!

Like a pot of harvest gold. Due some research and you will discover that "real" nostalgia is worth big dollars.

I like the party idea. Tell your friends to wear their "real" '70's clothes and such to the party. And do invite your coworker. Then surely one of your friends will tell your coworker, "your so wannabe"

Well if you like it, and dont plan on moving anytime soon, leave it the way it is.

If you are planning to sell get rid of anything avocado green or harvest gold color and use light neutral colors, and only use choclate brown for accent, not for the main color

I'd take it as a compliment. Although I don't think a 20-something is anyone whose opinion I'd worry much about when it came to decorating!
