Hi,
Recently I injured myself lifting too much weight on my back. Has anyone ever had inflamed muscle for two weeks in the back? Seems like this is a long time to have this. Please do not respond "you should go see your dr". I am asking has anyone ever had this problem or know someone that has?

Aye, been there done that... I was lifting a 270lb transmission and blew my lower back out... (lift with your legs as they say :) ). I have an applied kinesiology doctor who reset my back into its correct orientation :) and then told me to ice for 15 on and 15 off. It helped a lot. Its now been oh... about a week and a half, and while I am 85% better there are still things that when I bend a certain way, it aches, or if I sit for extended periods it aches. Backs suck and can often take a substantial amount of time before they are back in tip top shape. Take it easy, stretch often, and try not to over do it.

I am 53yrs old and a very very active person who does not know the word. . can't.
I am very limber for my age and I am stronger than my 135lbs would suggest. . .I surprise everyone with my abilities.
Yet,while playing with my grandchildren I guess I either pulled a muscle or pinched a nerve and I am in PAIN.
I went to my family Dr who gave me muscle relaxers and went to a Chiropractor when muscle relaxers did not seem to help.
I have even checked online.
Inflammed muscles can take up to months to heal.
Using heat packs will help ease the pain.
What it amounts to is that I don't take the time I should to warm up my muscles esp those in my lower back. . . I just jump up and do whatever needs to be done and in doing so there are some muscles in the back that I don't use and others that I probably over use.
The Drs all told me to start lifting with my knees and not my back and I am really guilty of that. . . looks pretty stupid to squat and pick up my purse or a piece of paper but I think I can trade looking stupid with the pain of this back thing.
At one point of this hurting back I could only invision being on a walker or in a wheel chair for the rest of my life and that is NOT a pretty sight or thought.
You,me and others really need to listen to the professionals who tell us to warm up our muscles and to lift properly.
In the end what it amounts to is that I am suffering the effects of getting old. . .though I am 53 I feel 25 but I gotta get it in my head that I am NOT 25 and I gotta quit acting like I am and start acting like a Grandma. . . damn
Pain after 2 weeks is getting bearable but I still take Ibuprofen atleast once a day which seems to help.

Good Luck

I have learned not to let my back pain go for that long. My dad had suffered from back problems for years. If you don't want to see a doctor, try a clinical massage therapist or chiropractor. Two weeks IS a long time. Just don't mess around when it comes to your back! By the way, are you sure it's the muscles and not a disc??

My back has been stiff and achy for the last few months. I didn't have a specific injury, just genaral soreness.
