check your local papers, labor papers or unemployment office to see if the local operating engineers union where you are is opening their apprenticeship program. if it is not open now then call the union hall that has jurisdiction over your area and tell them what you want and ask them when the next time will be that they will be opening their apprenticeship program

You will need to start as a construction laborer. You would do well to get a class "B" commercial drivers license first. That is a good way to get hired and later trained on the job for heavy equipment.

Like most work you start at the bottom and work up.

Try a union house for that trade. They can get you on the right track as far as training and jobs.
