Jibba Jabba's answer is absolutely right and he synthesized the meaning of that sentence (a quote, I guess!) with very simple words!
In my view, that sentence and the feelings it expresses are - currently - absolutely rubbish.
Well, maybe they were good during the Medieval Age..? However, perhaps we should all remind ourselves that we now live in the "Global Village"!

In other words, If I ever put someone in front of serving my country. My death would not be worthy enough to acknowledge. Instead of giving a seven gun solute when I die just use my helmet to cook with to make it useful in some way because I would be useless

This manis in love with his or her spouse so much that he doesnt go to war, but then there is one less man who could be fighting and his stength is being used in the wrong sense the helmet is representing hisstength/worth. hemay be staying home with his spouse but his/her stength is going toward the goal of staying with his/her wife and what was meant to "protecting her" but is not able to feel like he is protecting his wife from the world because he isnt fighting...
again i coul be wrong
or that could make absulutly no sense to you but w/e
