A survey has found that Indians and other South-Asians living in Britain are more willing to fight for the country compared with the national average. And Hindus were the most willing candidates.
According to the survey, 43 percent of Asians said that they were willing to join the British armed forces, compared with 37 percent for the general non-Asian population.
Hindus were the most willing at 56 percent, followed by 51 percent of Sikhs, while 34pc of Muslims say they would take up arms in defence of Britain, said the poll.
The ICM poll, commissioned by the BBC's Asian Network, questioned 500 Asians and a similar number of non-Asians. The survey followed the death of Lance Corporal Jabron Hashmi in July; the British Muslim killed fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan.
While they are more willing to fight, less than one percent of British armed forces consists of Asians. The poll has rekindled the debate as to why there are so few ethnic minorities in the army.

You show how confused you are 'hoho-haha-hehe'
Hindus are not Muslims !!!! Correct?
Muslims have openly declared they will not even help the police let alone defend the UK against attack.

So far 'Brahmanda' is the closest to getting the 10 points by stating "Hindu Dharma sastras teach " if any one has fed you, repay his debt even by giving up your life for him if need be there" "

Hindus in general believe in repayment of debts. England has given them shelter and job . This debt has to be repaid so they are willing to repay by fighting for Britain. Hindu Dharma sastras teach " if any one has fed you, repay his debt even by giving up your life for him if need be there".

From visiting the Punjab some years ago and talking to Sikh men I came away with the perception that to be a 'warrior' was a very respectable role. I suspect it is more honourable within the Sikh community than it is within the indigenous white population. I also suspect that any group that identifies itself along religious lines (eg. Sikh, Hindu) are more likely to find war more honourable than materialists and atheists, which includes most of the white population of the UK.
With regards to your second issue about why there is a relatively small proportion of ethnic minorities in the Army, I suspect that this is due to institutional racism. Although the Army has a long history of involvement of minorities (e.g Ghurkhas etc), but it also has a long and bloody history of colonisation and subjugation of Asian populations and this was based on the racist assumption that whites are superior and Asians are there to be governed and exploited. I suspect the shadows of this mentality remain deep in army culture.
Finally, one should always be cautious of interpreting survey findings of the type where people are questioned about their attitudes or how they would behave in a hypothetical situation. There is wealth of social psychological evidence that suggests people do not act as they say they would act when faced with the actual situation. Sikhs and Hindus may say they are more ready to fight, but do they volunteer for the army in the same proportions - or are they disqualified during recruitment and training? In addition, with reference to Afghanistan, most of the white men of my acquaintance do not consider that campaign to be fight for their country, but a misguided attempt to support the US 'war on terror'; perhaps Sikhs and Hindus have a different view. I do not know.

An interesting debate..particurlarly for Muslims. I think any who joined would get a lot of pressure from either family members or Muslims in their community. I don't think there would be quite an issue with Hindus, particularly with the current conflict, as they will undoutably have been descended from India, there is a constant conflct with Muslim Pakistan.

Then where is the result of this survey?
I mean, where are the 34% helping defend this country from extremism and potential terrorism?
The overall view that i get, is that the muslim community will not aid the police and security services in rooting these people out!

There maybe a couple of issues here: they may in a survey say they are willing to fight, but in fact when it comes to signing the dotted line and having a military career, nice asian boys and girls don't do that sort of thing. I do agree though that the British military and British society has a poor record of making asians feel welcome. Why they would fight having all those hot asian babes in the military is beyond me!

The Hindus have a link with britain dating back to the days of the Raj, so it is not surprising they have more alacrity towards Britain, at least the Hindus are willing to integrate with us and aren't posing a threat, unlike some other religions I could mention!
