This was beetle like. Black in colour with two rows of small spike like protusions, orange in colour, toward the rear of the insect. Silver/grey underneath. 6 legs at the front. About the size of a large ladybird, maybe slightly bigger.

We found this outside crawling around on the roof of our car.

We live in London, UK and we have never seen anything like it.

Probably some sort of beetle, though there are so many, that doesn't narrow it down. This site is American, but there are lots of pictures of different insect families and it may help you narrow it down:

prolly anothe bug fron mexico, if it is there will be millions in the next few days
