I was once brought by a friend to a public asian bath. My first time to be naked in front of everybody that I had an erection. What is the proper behavior or etiquette when inside a public or sauna bath?

Public baths in Asia are a wonderful thing. Correct etiquette varies from country to country. Erections, however, are definitely not correct in any of those countries. Although very understandable--it seems common that many men will have an erection during their first public nude situation. If you had a towel (or hand-towel as is common in Korea and Japan) it would be best to cover your groin and make your way to one of the areas where you can sit and wash. This will give you time for your erection to go down. Or, if you had already scrubbed, you could go and sit in one of the pools until you were more composed.

Of course nudity is required in public baths, some countries are a little more modest than others. My experience with Japan is that the hand-towel is ofter carried in front of the groin but in Korea and China this is not the case.

After you have removed your clothes and placed them in the locker, you should proceed to one of the areas set up for washing. Scrub yourself well, from behind the ears down to your toes. You will be getting into a pool of water after this and everyone will appreciate a thorough scrubbing job as the water is changed only once daily. Take your time and soak, if there is more than one pool definitely try them all. If your bath also has a steam room and a sauna, try them. Come back out, scrub again and then soak in the pools some more.

Many times there are bath attendents who for a fee will scrub you--this is a thorough and somewhat rough scrapping off of your dead skin. There is nothing intimate about it; in Korea, though, when they are scrubbing your legs, they will pull your scrotum out of the way so that they can scrub all the way up your leg. Some men, will move their scrotum aside themselves so that they attendant does not have to touch it. They do not scrub your groin, however. You will feel very clean afterwards. You can go soak again or go to a rest area and have a nap now.

Bathing in Asia is great. Many wishes for returned trips to the public baths.

Your first time was correct. Erections are why the baths were initiated in acient Greece and Rome. It was considered a polite way to initiate the young boys into homo eroticism and it worked well until the Christians ruined everything and Rome and Greece fell. Now, it is imcumbent on every man to go into the baths and erect all they can but do it with good taste. Only if the guys are studs and "appear" to be over 18 should you erect. But, by all means, go forth and erect a beautiful structure so that it may be worshipped. (Disclaimer: If you are under 18 and you are reading this - shove off kid!)

1.It depends on the public bath. 2. The public bath I visit has no restrictions 3. The super sentos do not allow tattoos. 4. I have four small tattoos and I have no problems visiting the public baths. The gangsters usually have tattoos from their necks to their knees. I think the tattoo restriction is mainly for the Japaneses Gangsters.

If you could control yourself it would be much better to avoid an erection next time.
