Jack-o-lanterns are love lights no matter what's carved on them. They started out as lanterns to guide the souls of the beloved dead back to their resting places after they visited on Samhain night. These aren't scary ghosts being guided, but loved ones like the grandparents and ancestors who watch over us with love from the next world.
BUT, a heart-o-lantern is a really sweet idea. Instead of a heart shaped light, carve hearts of all sizes all over your pumpkin,and then put a candle inside. That would be pretty.

what you can do is take pumpkins and carve them it may take awhile but your sweetie will love them and just carve them to say what you want . . .
