Consider that no other alcohol could be used for reasons that this might be served to a recovering alcoholic.

remember I said recovering alcoholic so that means not even things that have the tast of alcohol... does the worstchesire sauce have the taste? and apple cider because it is fermented?

hmm that is a tough one since it is mainly the acidity you are going for..and all vinegars are fermented- but if you want to stay on the safe side maybe try nonfermented unsweetened clear apple juice- this might be a little sweeter than you wanted and something to take into consideration when adding other sweet tasting ingredients..I am pretty sure that recovering alcoholics can have a bit of vinegar without any problems though

I was going to suggest a very dry cider, but if your guest is a recovering alcoholic you are being very considerate in staying away from wine completely (although usually most of the alcohol evaporates in the cooking process, it's not a risk you'd want to take). There are some non-alcoholic 'wines' available - a good supermarket or deli should have them - and although most of those I've tasted are not what I'd want to drink for pleasure I'm sure they would make a good substitute in a recipe.

Depending on what you're cooking you can use White Wine Vinegar. The great taste of the wine but no alcohol. Just be careful because it is obviously more acidic.

Broth, water, or use a non alcohol beer or wine. Most recipes will tell you the wine is optional anyway

I would suggest apple cider. They are in the same kind of container as apple juice, except they say cider on em. It should work pretty well for you!!
