tower--asking you to convert to Christianity is not the same as ripping all your fingernails out or gouging your eyes. Christianity is between you and God. It is fair to sterotype like that and judge all Chritians by the actions of some..there are good, kind, and nonhypocritical Christians (though they may be in the minority and I am one of them. Please don't judge millions of individuals as if they are all a group and all the same.

Tom, even though I do not like parts of your answer the last part was a very good part that I hadn't even thought of--yes, once saved always saved and not by works (unless that is somehow blaspemy of the holy spirit??is it? (answer in comments if you read this).

shybusch-that is a good scripture for B2 and maybe you are right, but I do believe it is not by works but faith and once saved always saved. When I remember that Gid said even if ones own mother didn't love them, He would. He says we are his dearly loved children. If my son was being tortured and told to denounce me and he did to get the pain to stop, I would never not forgive him. My heart would love him all the more as it would hurt me so bad to see him torture. I would know he didn't mean it and long to comfort him. I find it hard to believe that if a human parent would almost universally react this way that God surely would and that he would love and understand us in our humanness and pain and love and forgive us..surely he who reads our heart would know we didn't mean it. So despite the verse that seems to apply, I think you are worng on that call.

Part I
A-1 I would be constantly praying in the Spirit. I would probably be trying to numb my mind so the pain and torture weren't so great. I would also be claiming scriptures about tribulation.

A-2 Avoiding torture is not a reason to denounce Jesus.
Mat 10:28 "And do not fear those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

Part II
B-1 I have to admit that it would be very hard not to denounce it, but I would like to believe that my faith is stronger than anything that happens to my mortal body.

B-2 I don't believe God would forgive you if you died before you could repent of denying Him.
Mat 10:33 But whoever shall deny Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in Heaven.

Part III

C-1 Even if my family is being tortured, dencouncing Jesus as a way to save them means that we love our family more than God.
Mat 10:37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

C-2 See answer B-2 above.

Here's one answer for all of your questions:

2 Timothy 2:23 "But foolish and unlearned questions avoid,"

There's no need to ask "what if" questions. If any scenario came up where a man's faith was being tested by persecution, God would give that man boldness (through the Holy Spirit of God which indwells believers) to stand for Christ.
And even if a man faltered from fear of persecution, if he/she was a true believer in Christ, his/her sins are already forgiven. We do not earn eternal life based upon how we do or do not live for Christ. But one who does have eternal life will live his life for God through the power and help of the Holy Spirit.

You don't know much about torture it would seem, everyone cracks. You'll say Your a striped bottom baboon sooner or later if that's what they want because sooner or later everyone cracks. Torture isn't for fun, it's to find out what needs to be known by the monsters doing the torturing; show someone an acetylene torch light up and see how long they cling to any belief.

I am not Christian, and feel it would be torture to have someone try to convert me to Christianity considering the long history of the "churches" torturing, killing, stealing, massacring indigenous peoples, among other criminally negligent behavior, all in the name of a god whose is suppose to be epitome of love and peace. All in the name of christ. How hypocritical.

To all...You are filled with God's love. Religion is merely the meeting for the understanding and study of that love. The rest is not relevent.
