That is a very strange church. Are you sure they worshipped Jesus and not Bacchus ?

Drinking is not a sin, but being drunk is. Even Jesus was accused of being a winebibber.

Be not drunk with wine which is in excess but be filled with the holy spirit.
A little wine is good for the stomach.

The Bible shows both sides of this issue. Though most churches don't approve of drinking, it is not sinful. Now if the alcohol consumes the person then it becomes a problem. Church people look down on tobacco and alcohol but rush off in the morning for coffee and donuts , are they any better or worse ? If a person takes caffiene pills (speed) they are a drug user and can't be close to God but if a person in church drinks 3 pots of coffee a day it is okay ? It is hypocrisy.

Now regarding the bar issue : We are to abstain from all appearence of evil and I believe a bar classifies as that. It would be the general opinion of anyone asked that people sitting in a bar are not men of God. So the bar scene should be avoided. Now why do you think that its a church issue based on how some people live. There will be bad people in every church just most will hide it from the other church members.

If you truly want to serve God then you wont attend church at all and you will spend your time seeking Him and serving Him. God never calls anyone to sit in a church pew for this is unpleasing to Him.

Where I live there is a Catholic church that hosts "theology on tap" at Felix's pub! It's a way to draw people into conversations about God. You mentioned Boston. There is probably a large Celtic population there. I think many old world populations don't tend to draw separations between things like that the way that the society usually does. Jesus drank wine at the last supper.

I wouldn't let what some members of a church were doing influence you in believing that all members shared the same view. I believe that the Bible shows us that people drank fermented wine, but the teachings of the Bible state that it is wrong to drink in excess (getting drunk).
The apostle Paul also stated that it was better for a believer not to do something (even though the Bible didn't speak against it) for the sake of another Christian if it led that Christian to go astray.

Understand that drinking is not a sin. It might well become a stumbling block for people such as yourself. If you are having issues with the church drinking perhaps you shoud discuss this with your pastor. It is not good that they should cast a stumbling block before young Christians. I myself may or may not have issues with the church can't really say one way or the other it would not be good to cast a stumbling block for others....In itself drinking is not a sin.

Yes, I would. Did you ever hear of having fun? Why would you leave a church because someone attends, who has a drink? Have a GREAT day..

Not regulary but every once in great while it would be ok. Just don't become an addict (meaning drinking acholah is all you do).If Yes I would if you like church, they can't force you to go with them so if you don't want to go juast say no.

Stay Sober

that is the very problem with people who are religous or belong to any organised group .rules !!!!!
having a social drink does not mean someone is evil .
playing cards because your relgion tells you not to is not
evil .
some relgions women can not cut there hair or wear slacks .
on and on it goes .
dos and donts !
my God is not so petty as to care if i have a drink ,or play a friendly game of cards or if i am wearing nothing at all .
it is my heart and my deeds and the trying to be a decent person to others that i feel he/she really cares about .
people love to get caught up in all there little rules ,it doesnt mean diddly squat .
do unto others as they would do to you >>>>>>
period the whole law !!!!!!

You make it sound like you are not a Christian.

May I know why you go to that Church?

Seems to me like you are just trying to provoke Christians like these Islamic jerks go around doing.

And you're not doing too good a job of it, I'm sorry to say.

Why shouldn't they? What's wrong with having a drink with their friends? Oh, I forgot, it's against Christianity to have fun. I bet they play Bingo too - they're all gonna burn in hell, that's all there is to it.

You need to lighten up.
