For a long time my scanner was not working with Windows XP. Then I did something, I don't know what, that got it to work properly. Now it is back to its old form and when I plug it in it says Windows does not recognize the device plugged in or something like that.

i've had a similar problem with an HP printer/scanner. If you delete your driver software and reinstall it then restart your computer that should fix it. Good Luck

Use Control Panel, Add/Delete Programs. Delete it totally. Then reboot and install it again. Wait and plug in the cable after you reboot so XP knows it is there. Unless the scanner is too old. Then you might have to download the new drivers from web before you reinstall.

I have been through this problem, too so you are not alone on this one. Here is what you have to do, you have to update the drivers for your scanjet, and it should work. This type of scanjet is an older modle because it is compatible for windows 2000, nt,xp, me, 95, and 98 -- this driver is the link to the Windows xp:

go to HP's website.. www.hp.com ... search for your scanner drivers.. download the setup file... run it.. follow the instructions... your pc will detect the scanner if there is no other problem
