I think any city--any state is the best to raise a child--if you instill good values to them. The place where I used to live (Alamogordo, NM) wasn't the best of places in my opinion. I would much rather live in a place where crime and drugs aren't as used or practiced. Unfortunately we don't live in the perfect society.
The question is do we want to shelter and protect our kids or teach them right from wrong using real life to be the example. I don't know the answer.
By my biased opinion on a military base is the best. You are guaranteed a community where there aren't drug dealers, child molesters, murderers, or any sort of crime. You know your neighbors (while not all are "perfect" people) have never committed a serious crime and if they do it will be taken care of immediately.
At the same time--I never knew to lock doors. I never knew that standing at the corner of a gas station you could be kidnapped. I never knew all of these things but of course I was protected.
It depends on what a person wants for their kids. Do they want a safe community with morals to raise their kids in or do they want a hard knock life where they are taught--not only by guidance--but experience and real life situations?

Very few cities are good for raising kids.. small towns are generally much better - or even in the country...
city kids grow up faced with crime, and fear, country kids are far more relaxed
depends what country you live in as well.. the USA is probably the worst place to raise kids in developed nations.. I wouldnt even have kids if I lived there....

Kids shouldn't grow up in the city. Have you seen how tiny the yards are (if you even HAVE a yard)? The best place to raise kids is in the country, where they have lots of room to play. I lived in the city until I was 5, and boy did I have a stunted childhood...everyone knew how to ride a bike in the country except me!

I don't think the city is good for kids, I grew up in the country and I loved it, it could take a little longer to get to work but it's well worth it, if you don't like the country, try some where in Utah. I had a pen-pal from salt lake and she loved it there.

It's not always where you raise your children, but how. As long as they are in a loving, supportive and nurturing environment, they should be fine. Keep them out of high crime neighborhoods and so on, but I don't think any specific city is "the best".

There are lots of really nice towns in Northern New Jersey.. like Haworth, harrington park, demarest, etc. And they have GREAT schools. Plus, it's close to NYC.
