a peanut is a legume native to africa- they are mistakenly called nuts just because it sounds better- they are full of higly digestible protein and wonderful oil. there have been many applications for the peanut (look up george washington carver) but as a food source they are very adaptable to recipes of many cultures and really are an excellent source of protein. some people are higly allergic to peanuts or any product containing peanuts so for them it is a strict "no no"- dietary taboo! peanut butter is made from grinding the roasted shelled "nuts" into a fine smooth paste. sometimes extra oils or sugars are added to the paste. I prefer mine without the additives.. chunky peanut butter is the same thing only the "nuts" are not as finely ground. in fact coarsely chopped peanuts are sometimes added to the final paste..just so the consitency will be chunkier- oh and they grow underground much the same way as potatoes do.

Peanut butter is roasted peanuts, sugar, oil, and salt ground to a thick spreadable paste.
Peanuts grow underground, attached to a plant, and are harvested and used to make things like roasted peanuts, boiled peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oil, and many other things. The plant part is sometimes used for cattle feed.

peanut butter or simply groundnut butter is butter either mixed with peanut/groundnut chutney or peanut/groundnut flavour, to give it a different taste and look than ordinary butter, besides since peanut/groundnut butter is salty,it can work wonders with sandwichs and salads. Also groundnuts or peanuts as americans and english say them, are the ordianry groundnuts that we relish either as salted or simply plain while peanut butter is our ordinary butter mixed with groundnut flavour to either give butter a different taste or to mix two of our favourite fooditems,ie butter and groundnut.
